Meet the Dog Respiratory Health Kit

The Respiratory Health Panel provides clear insight into your pet’s respiratory health by screening for viral and bacterial pathogens that affect the airways and lungs.

Many respiratory issues begin quietly with mild or unclear symptoms before developing into more serious infections. This panel helps identify potential concerns early, so you can act quickly and prevent spread or escalation.

This test is lab-processed using PCR diagnostics, the same gold-standard technology trusted by veterinarians.

What we test for

What it screens for

Viruses — the kennel cough complex viruses, both strains of canine flu concern, and serious systemic viruses like distemper.

Bacteria — including Bordetella, the primary bacterial cause of kennel cough, and rarer bacteria that can progress to pneumonia.

See the full target list

Bacteria

  • Bordetella bronchiseptica — the primary bacterial cause of kennel cough
  • Mycoplasma cynos — a bacterial infection that can worsen into pneumonia
  • Streptococcus zooepidemicus — a rare but serious cause of severe pneumonia

Viruses

  • Canine distemper virus — a serious multi-system viral disease
  • Canine adenovirus type 2 — a core kennel cough complex virus
  • Canine parainfluenza virus — one of the most common kennel cough viruses
  • Canine respiratory coronavirus — a mild, early-stage respiratory virus
  • Canine influenza (H3N8) — dog flu
  • Influenza (H5N1) — avian influenza, an emerging concern
  • Canine Paninfluenza — a highly contagious viral lung infection that causes respiratory symptoms like coughing and fever
  • Canine herpesvirus 1 — a respiratory virus, most significant in young dogs

Every sample is processed by PCR in our laboratory. Panels are reviewed and updated by our veterinary advisors as the science evolves.

    Preventative

Our dog is naturally going to the zen room aka "isolation" room of his day care, we call him selective.. With the influx of pets the facility is getting with the holidays around the corner, the camp suggested this test. It was easy to use and the results were easy to understand. Going to stocking stuff this for his "friends" in the pay it forward program at the boarding facility.

    five stars

Our dogs have a very active lifestyle so we chose the canine respiratory kits and appreciate having a home testing option that fits into our routine since we live a little bit far out. Even though we bought two kits, we sent them both in with one label to make sure that we would receive the results together and they got back to us in the guaranteed window!

Turns out we’re HIS emotional support humans 😂

Looks are deceiving! He may look brave, but we’re actually our dog’s emotional support humans, rather than the other way around. Getting him to the vet can be a whole production, so being able to collect a sample at home with the Petwealth respiratory kit was a huge plus. We could send the results to our vet ahead of the visit, which saved time and helped us feel more prepared. Such a helpful option for our anxious boy!

Super easy and came back clear!

Did this one mostly just because it came with the full kit and we go to dog parks a lot, so figured why not check. Really cool that they test for Bordetella which is commonly linked to kennel cough, plus a bunch of other things. Thankfully Louie came back clear! Also SO easy to do. Just a quick swab and he didn't care at all.

Found something after she started coughing

Leia started coughing a few days after coming home from boarding. I absolutely love the place she stays but obviously when you have that many dogs together things can spread. I ordered this just to see if there was actually something going on and it did end up detecting something. Really glad I was able to get some answers quickly and have the results to share with her vet.
