Diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, litter box changes — or a clear baseline for a healthy cat.

Meet the Cat Fecal Health Kit

The Feline Fecal Health Panel provides clear insight into your cat’s digestive health by screening for parasites, harmful bacteria, and gut imbalances that can affect overall wellness.

Many feline digestive issues begin quietly with subtle changes in litter box habits, occasional vomiting, or soft stools before turning into bigger problems. This panel helps identify potential concerns early, so you can act quickly and keep your cat comfortable.

This test is lab-processed using PCR diagnostics, the same gold-standard technology trusted by veterinarians.

What we test for

What it screens for

Bacteria and bacterial toxins — the overgrowths behind most sudden digestive upsets. Several can pass to people.

Viruses — including panleukopenia, the serious one every cat owner wants ruled out quickly.

Intestinal worms — roundworms, hookworms, whipworm, and tapeworms, detected by their DNA rather than by waiting for an egg to appear under a microscope.

Protozoa — single-cell parasites including Tritrichomonas, a leading cause of stubborn diarrhea in young cats, and Toxoplasma, relevant for any household with a pregnancy.

See the full target list — 27 targets

Bacteria & toxins

  • Clostridium perfringens alpha toxin (CPA) — a common bacterial overgrowth linked to sudden diarrhea
  • Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin (CPE) — the toxin gene tied to more significant disease
  • Campylobacter jejuni — bacterial diarrhea; can pass to people
  • Campylobacter coli — bacterial diarrhea; can pass to people
  • Salmonella spp. — bacterial infection; can pass to people

Viruses

  • Feline panleukopenia virus — a serious, vaccine-preventable viral disease
  • Feline coronavirus (FeCoV) — a common and usually mild virus worth knowing about

Roundworms

  • Toxocara cati — the most common cat roundworm; can pass to people
  • Toxocara canis — the dog roundworm, occasionally found in cats
  • Toxascaris leonina — a roundworm of both cats and dogs
  • Baylisascaris procyonis — the raccoon roundworm; uncommon, and worth catching early

Hookworms

  • Ancylostoma — the common hookworm; can pass to people
  • Uncinaria stenocephala — the northern hookworm

Whipworm

  • Trichuris vulpis — a whipworm causing chronic, on-and-off diarrhea

Tapeworms

  • Dipylidium caninum — the flea tapeworm, the one owners most often spot
  • Taenia spp. — tapeworms picked up from hunting
  • Echinococcus granulosus — a tapeworm worth catching early; can pass to people
  • Echinococcus multilocularis — a rare tapeworm worth catching early; can pass to people

Protozoa

  • Tritrichomonas blagburni — a leading cause of chronic diarrhea in young cats
  • Giardia spp. — soft, foul-smelling diarrhea; very contagious between pets
  • Cystoisospora spp. — coccidia, a common cause of diarrhea in kittens
  • Eimeria spp. — coccidia, usually picked up from the environment
  • Cryptosporidium spp. — a protozoal parasite causing watery diarrhea
  • Cryptosporidium felis — species-level identification of the cat strain
  • Cryptosporidium canis — species-level identification of the dog strain
  • Toxoplasma gondii — a protozoal parasite; important to know about in households with a pregnancy
  • Neospora caninum — a protozoal parasite, occasionally found in cats

Every sample is processed by PCR in our laboratory. Panels are reviewed and updated by our veterinary advisors as the science evolves.

Why the Cat Fecal Health Kit

Digestive issues are extremely common in cats, especially in multi-cat homes. Early detection helps:

  • Catch parasites or imbalances before they cause weight loss or chronic diarrhea
  • Reduce stress on your cat (and your furniture)
  • Support faster, more targeted care
  • Avoid unnecessary vet visits or medications

This panel is designed to provide clarity when litter box changes or mild tummy issues don’t yet point to an obvious cause.

Dr. Sharon MacIvor is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with more than 40 years of clinical experience in private practice. As owner and medical director of a Miami veterinary practice, she diagnoses and treats infectious and reportable diseases, leads emergency triage and surgical care, and has built her practice around rigorous biosecurity, isolation, and infection-control protocols.

Her expertise spans infectious and zoonotic disease management, risk evaluation and containment, and regulatory compliance — work that has included coordinating with local and state public health authorities and maintaining clinical operations through crisis conditions. During the COVID-19 pandemic she served as a relief veterinarian across South Florida hospitals, sustaining urgent and surgical care through staffing shortages and strict public-health restrictions.

Dr. Amy Attas always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian — there's photographic evidence that her first patient was Spot, a black-and-white plush toy, when she was just five years old. She landed her first real job in a veterinary hospital at thirteen and hasn't stopped since.

A lifelong New Yorker, she attended Barnard College before heading to the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned both a master's degree in animal behavior and her doctorate in veterinary medicine. She returned to New York to complete a one-year internship in medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan, then spent four years at a prestigious small-animal practice on Park Avenue.

In 1992, she founded City Pets, a veterinary house-call service whose team cares for the dogs and cats living, working, and visiting in New York City. A serial pug rescuer, Dr. Amy splits her time between New York and Connecticut with her husband, Steve, and their rescued pug puppy, Kokoru. How does Petwealth work?

Petwealth makes it easy to gain deeper insight into your pet's health from home.
Simply collect your pet's sample using the materials included in your kit, return it to our certified laboratory using the prepaid mailer, and receive a personalized digital report with your results and next steps.

Petwealth uses lab-processed PCR diagnostics, the same gold-standard technology trusted by veterinarians. PCR testing is highly sensitive and can detect certain pathogens and health indicators before symptoms appear, helping you act earlier with confidence.

How long does it take to get results?

Once our laboratory receives your sample, results are typically delivered within 24–48 hours.

You'll be notified as soon as your report is ready.

How do I access my results?

When your results are ready, you'll receive an email directing you to your secure Petwealth
account.
Your digital report can be viewed anytime and shared with your veterinarian if desired.

Is this a replacement for my vet?

No. Petwealth is for two specific things vets aren't great at: (1) screening when there are no clear symptoms yet — vets typically only test when something's already wrong, and (2) faster diagnostic clarity when symptoms are vague. For treatment, medications, and emergencies, your vet is still the answer. We make their job faster because you'll arrive with data.

Does Petwealth replace my veterinarian?

Not at all. Petwealth complements veterinary care. It doesn't replace it.
We work alongside your veterinarian by providing laboratory-based insights that can help you make more informed decisions about your pet's health.

If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, please contact your veterinarian or the nearest emergency veterinary hospital immediately.

Petwealth made it easy for our whole family to be involved in caring for the dogs we love

The kits were incredibly easy to use, and the swabbing process was simple enough that my kids wanted to do it themselves. The only problem was taking turns! Thankfully, Petwealth includes extra swabs, so everyone got to be part of the fun.
